Sippin' in Style

With the fourth of July quickly approaching, we thought it was only appropriate to get our party planning on here at the DIY Playbook.
4th of July Straws
What's more patriotic and appropriate for a backyard BBQ than red, white & blue flags to add to your favorite cocktail? With a little less than a week to prep, these straws are a cheap & easy Rookie DIY project that will leave your guests feeling proud to be an American.
Washi Tape Straws
All you need: a few rolls of washi tape and vintage straws.
Washi Tape DIY
If you haven't heard of washi tape... you're missing out! These fun rolls of tape can be used for (literally) anything. PLUS, they come in so many different colors and patterns, we're sure you'll find a style that fits your party planning needs. I found these three rolls @ JoAnn Fabrics on sale for .97 cents each. You can also find some at Target, Michael's, Amazon, or lots of local craft shops.
Vintage Straw DIY
Next up, the striped straws. We are currently crushing on these straws and have added them as a staple in our own homes. Whether we are entertaining or just relaxing, these straws make any drink a lot more exciting. You can buy these at Target (that's where these are from), JoAnn, Amazon, Michael's, Etsy, and I'm sure lots of other local specialty shops.
Straw Flags
Once you have your supplies all set to go, all you need to do is wrap a piece of washi tape around each straw, cut the edges to resemble a flag, and enjoy your patriotic accessories!

You can also add your guests' names to each straw for a little bit of personalization.

I even added a little washi tape on the straw holder for some extra fun! Come on fellow rookies, we know you can make this happen before the 4th. Only two supplies and about ten minutes, we're sure these bad boys will be a big hit in your backyard.

Sangria, champagne, cookies...get ready to INDULGE next week! Calories don't count when it's a holiday, right?!
As you probably know, Google Reader is going away next week! We've tried out both Blog Lovin' & Feedly and have really enjoyed both. You can follow us on blog lovin' here or feedly here. Thanks for the support guys!
